About The Flavor Balance

Hi, I’m Michele. Welcome to my kitchen.

I created The Flavor Balance during my own journey toward better health—and while learning how to build meals that support my goals without giving up the food I genuinely enjoy.

The Flavor Balance Real food. Better balance. Plenty of flavor.

The idea behind it all

Keep the food you love. Build the balance around it.

Why I started

I stopped asking what I had to give up.

Over time, I became more intentional about what I was eating—not because I wanted another temporary diet, but because I wanted habits I could realistically continue.

Sometimes that means increasing the protein. Sometimes it means measuring a portion instead of eliminating a food. Sometimes it means adding more vegetables, choosing a leaner protein, or making a simple substitution that actually makes sense for the meal.

I still want potatoes. I still want rice and bread. I still want avocado and cheese. And I definitely still want my food to taste good.

What balance means to me

Look at the whole plate.

I’m learning to think about how the meal works together instead of labeling individual foods as good or bad.

01 Protein

A meaningful protein source helps anchor the meal.

02 Intentional Carbs

Potatoes, rice, bread, quinoa and other familiar foods can still have a place.

03 Vegetables & Fruit

Color, texture, variety and volume all belong on the plate too.

04 Healthy Fats

Foods like avocado and egg yolks can be part of a satisfying meal.

05 Flavor

Seasoning is not an afterthought. Food should still be worth looking forward to.

Flavor is non-negotiable

Healthy food should still taste like food you want to eat.

I love bold, savory flavors. Garlic, herbs, spices and well-seasoned food are staples in my kitchen. I’m not interested in stripping all of that away just because I’m trying to make more intentional choices.

The challenge—and the fun—is figuring out how to create better balance around all that flavor.
